Abstract:

In these lectures I will cover some key aspects of experimental collider physics, with focus on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The basic principles of the particle detection will be discussed and illustrated with concrete examples. Some recent results related to Higgs, top quark and searches for new phenomena at the LHC will be presented, and used to discuss how experimental data is acquired, processed and interpreted. The lectures will also cover topics on statistics and machine learning, seen as tools for data analysis and interpretation at the LHC
