Excellence Unit
The FTAE was recognised as a Scientific Unit of Excellence by the University of Granada on July 21st, 2016 and has maintained this label of excellence since then.
Organisation and Management
The FTAE Unit has a well-defined organisation and management structure. Members of the different committees are elected by the permanent members of the Unit.
- • Scientific Director (SD): José Santiago [since summer 2024]
- The SD oversees and leads the daily activities of the Unit and prepares, in coordination with the SC, yearly reports of the Unit’s activities and scientific and human resources output. He/She coordinates funding applications of the Unit. The mandate lasts 4 years and cannot be held more than two consecutive times.
- • Steering Committee (SC)
- Members: José Santiago [ex officio], Elvira Gámiz [since summer 2024] and Antonio Bueno [since summer 2023]
- The SC is formed by the SD and one senior member from each strategic research area (SRA). The SC meets every two weeks to oversee the Unit’s activities and make the necessary executive decisions.The representatives of the SRAs are elected every 4 years and cannot serve more than two consecutive times.
- • Scientific Advisory Board (SAB)
- Members: Prof. Alan Watson (Chair, Leeds University), Prof. Antonio Pich (Secretary, University of Valencia & IFIC), and Prof. Herbert Dreiner (University of Bonn)
- The SAB is formed by independent and renowned scientists in the field of particle and astroparticle physics and cosmology. Based on yearly reports, the SAB monitors the Unit's activities and provides expert advice on how to tackle the Unit's weaknesses. Every 4 years the members of the SAB come to Granada to perform a full review of the Unit. On 2024 the SAB will be partially renewed and the number of its members will increase to five. The renewal of the SAB is promoted by its current members for a mandate of 4 years.
- • Strategy Programme and Human Resources Committee (SPC)
- Members: José Santiago [ex officio], Mar Bastero [since summer 2023], Bruno Zamorano [since summer 2023]
- This committee includes the SD, one theorist and one experimentalist, both members of the Unit. The SPC develops and monitors the implementation of the Strategic Programme and associated human resources actions. The SPC is renewed every 4 years, upon proposal by the SC, prior to the preparation of the next Strategic Programme. Elected members of this committee cannot serve more than one consecutive term.
- • Scientific Activities Committee (SAC)
- Members: Mikael Chala [since summer 2024], Patricia Sánchez-Lucas [since summer 2024], Ricardo Cepedello [since summer 2024], Renato Fonseca [since summer 2023], Sandra Kvedaraite [since summer 2024]
- This committee is formed by two senior members and three postdoctoral researchers. The SAC plans and monitors scientific activities, such as seminars, journal clubs, conferences and workshops. They are elected every 2 years.
- • Outreach Committee (OC)
- Members: Diego García-Gámez [since summer 2024], José Ignacio Illana [since summer 2024], Clara Hernández [since summer 2024], Fuensanta Vilches [since summer 2024]
- This committee is formed by two senior members and two Ph.D. students. The OC plans and monitors outreach activities, such as Science Week and Researcher's Night, and also the presence of the Unit in the social media. They are elected every 2 years.
- • Gender Equity and Diversity Committee (GDC)
- Members: Alba Soto-Ontoso [since summer 2024] and Roberto Vega-Morales [since summer 2024]
- The GDC ensures the implementation of gender equity and diversity plans in coordination with the SPC. They are elected every 2 years.
